Clear steps, predictable feedback, and help the user can choose

The course was designed from open research published by Yale, Stanford, and Harvard. Students build the long-term academic foundation a college application later rests on: notice a problem, ask a question, compare two designs, revise, and explain the evidence in their own words.

01 / User and context

Mina, who is new to Nova School or moving to a new activity

Before entry, checking the guide, taking the first action, and seeing completion feedback

Emotional experienceThinking experienceSensory and physical experienceAction experienceTime and context
02 / Problem

It is hard to predict what will happen next or what to do first.

Target experienceClear steps, predictable feedback, and help the user can choose

03 / Testable requirements

Turn a need into a clear system promise

  • Show no more than three steps at once.
  • Give clear feedback after each step.
  • Let the user choose and turn off visual, sound, or motion help.
04 / Alternatives

One variable, two versions

  • A: picture sequence cards with one large Next button
  • B: short sound or light guidance started by the user
05 / Practical test

Check it with the same real task

Use the same neutral entry task. Compare success, time to first action, errors, and clarity ratings.

06 / Evidence

Use numbers and user comments

  • First-action success
  • Completion time and errors
  • Anonymous design ratings from at least two testers

The chart values are synthetic examples for this course page, not student results.

07 / Redesign

Use the evidence to improve once

Combine only the parts that help users start faster while keeping choice and accessibility.

08 / Ethics and accessibility

A good score is not the whole experience

Do not guess a person's mood. Let the user choose support and turn off sound or motion.

09 / Student output

Working prototype, experience journey, A/B chart, and one-page case study

Limit: A small class pilot is early evidence. Record how people and contexts differ, then name the next question to test.
